Motherwell 1 vs. Rangers 2 - July 29/2006

SIGNS OF SOMETHING SPECIAL

Season 2006/2007
Scottish Premier League Football and more importantly the Mighty Glasgow Rangers ARE BACK!!
That nerve wrangling, heart stopping, day breaking or day making time of the year is once more upon us and I’ve missed it like mad!
A new era under PLG is now in full swing and he is primed and ready to bring us back the title and I strongly believe that he will deliver.
Today’s game showed us a glimpse of things to come with some excellent technical, attacking and pacey football. Ok, there was a brief flashback to last season where from a dominated game we didn’t take our chances and got pegged back, but over the course of the game I was impressed with what I saw. The back four (or should I say six, with the two defensive midfielders) still have to gel fully but the signs are good. What I was most taken with though was the front four. A good combination of power and pace that could interchange at will, I am sure, WILL scare opposition defences to death!

Today’s team :-

Letizi :- Looked the part for me. Came out and actually CAUGHT the ball, none of this punching business, and seems to have a good command of his area. Great save prior to their goal and was unlucky that the ball fell back to the striker’s feet.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Hutton :- The weak link? On recent form the answer has to be yes but has a great chance to redeem himself and make the position his. Gets forward well but has to work on the defending, lost McCormack way too easily for the goal.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Svensson :- Next in the line of debutants. Some good tackles and seems comfortable on the ball. One or two uneasy moments, ball watching at the goal? But can only improve through building a partnership with J Rod.
RMed Verdict :- 7

JRod :- Again still has to gel with Svensson but I am very hopeful of a good, solid back line under PLG. He loves a good crunching tackle with one in particular today that just makes you smile. (unless you’re on the receiving end!!)
RMed Verdict :- 7

Smith :- Rangers young player of the year last year and showed why again today. Has boundless energy and always appears in any attack down the left. Doesn’t shirk his responsibility at the back either.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Hemdani :- Quiet but effective spoiler. Sums up Hemdani. Had a good game sitting in front of the back four today, which says a lot for his temperament knowing that Bazza will take his place in the coming weeks.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Clement :- Showed some class in the middle. Looks to have good vision and drive and always wants the ball, no lack of confidence from this young man. PLG’s next Essien??
RMed Verdict :- 8

Sionko :- Showed why PLG has been chasing him for the last few seasons. Great speed, trickery and delivery and well deserved goal, however fortunate. Great addition to the squad and has endeared himself to the fans very quickly.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Buffel :- This is what we paid for!! Great first half performance which could have ended with a hat trick including an amazing run from his own half, beating five players and chipping just over! Nb to Buffel, work on the finishing !!
RMed Verdict :- 8

Adam :- Talk about grasping opportunities with both hands!! PLG has given him a vote of confidence and no wonder. Great game with a shot off the bar, great corner for Prso’s goal and what about the pass for Sionko’s….. Brilliant. Can we now leave him out? Over to you PLG….
RMed Verdict :- 9 (My MOTM for the quality of his left foot alone!)

Prso :- Was busy telling my mate beside me how he was having a quiet game when he thunders a header into the top corner. Who the hell am I to criticise!!
RMed Verdict :- 8

Novo (on for Sionko) :- Didn’t get into the game as we saw out time. What happens to him when/if Sebo arrives??
RMed Verdict :- 3

PLG :- Love his style of football and love his new signings so far. Think we are in for an entertaining season. Good to see him lift the new managers first game hoodoo!
RMed Verdict :- 8

Overall I was very happy to get the three points today and with the likes of Boydy, Bazza, Burkey and maybe Sebo still to come in, the futures bright, the future may even be orang…….BLUE!!

Rangers 2 vs. 0 Hearts - May 6/2006

Rangers 2-0 Hearts 6th May 2006 AN “ECKS”TRA EFFORT

This day was about one man and one man only. The departing of a man, sorry, make that gentleman who was dealt a suicidal hand which gave him the chance to manage his boyhood hero’s but at the same time being told to keep up the high standards and traditions set by pre gone managers in Advocaat, Smith and Souness but to do it without the financial clout of which they were blessed. Love him or not he has brought us through THE most difficult time in the club’s recent history and has done it with his head held high, and rightly so. Seven trophies in that tenure, no matter how they were won, were won and will be shown in our history books as being won by Big Eck . The memories I will treasure forever I sincerely hope that he will also, for they are some of the best memories that I have as Rangers fan. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be hypocritical, as I have given Eck my fair share of harsh treatment, and I still stand by what I have said. I do think it is time for change and I believe that Eck thinks so also but for today it was good to see the ovation that came his way and I would like to take this opportunity, and I think that I speak for the majority of people at Rangers Media, to wish Alec the very, very best of luck for him and his family in their footballing future. Eck, you are the true epitome of a Rangers Great!!

Today’s team :-

Mullet :- Had to be on his guard and made some great saves to keep a clean sheet on what should be his swansong. This was emphasised as he was given the chance to take a standing ovation while being subbed after 80 minutes.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Murray :- Doesn’t look too confident at Right back was better when switched to his more accustomed Left back role. Gives everything but could see himself become more of a squad player next season.
Rmed Verdict :- 6

Andrews :- Great display from another Ger who looks to be heading for the exit doors. Won everything in the air and some of his crunching tackles just make you grin from within.( When he’s on your side!)
Rmed Verdict :- 8

Soti :- If he is to leave Govan in the summer then he could always tout himself to the Film industry as his theatrics were nothing short of stunning. One day he will get caught out badly, the likelihood is though that it will be at another club.
Rmed Verdict :- 6

Smith :- Quiet but effective game which was prematurely cut short in the second half. Will hopefully develop into a Gers great and can only get better under PLG.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Burke :- Has been shackled more since his rise to fame. Still manages to produces pieces of magic, none more so than a wee spin and run from the centre spot. Will benefit greatly from the upcoming break I think.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Rae :- Covered more ground than any other player, if he wasn’t making last ditch tackles he was laying balls on a plate for Boyd. A performance to be noted for the incoming boss.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Hemdani :- Complimented Rae well in the middle of the park. Every so often gets a bit slack in possession but overall has upped his work rate and effort.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Prso :- Quality performance by a quality player. For the size of the guy his dribbling skills are class. Terrorised Hearts all day and for the last and unmeaning full game of the season his usual top notch work rate is quite unbelievable.
Rmed Verdict :- 8

Lovenpants :- Played in fits and starts but all to often drifts out of the game. Moved from the centre out to the left to try and mix things up a bit.
Rmed Verdict :- 6

Boyd :- Goal machine of the highest order. Close on 20 goals in half a season, not since Marco Negri have we had one so prolific. Great to see that kind of natural ability at Ibrox, and long may it continue.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Big Eck :- Perfect send off for Eck as his side showed the kind of form that if had happened earlier might have given the new gaffer a CL place. Cant reiterate enough my best wishes to the man.
Rmed Verdict :- 10 (MOTM just for being there)

As of now a new and exiting era begins but bare a small thought for the memories that we are leaving behind.

Hibs 1 vs. Rangers 2 - May 02/2006

CURE FOR THE INSOMNIAC

It was an abysmal night of football. It's little wonder that the press are reporting that PLG is changing his arrival date from the start of June to "This Coming Monday". He more than anybody must now realise the size of his task.

I must admit that I feel sorry for Setanta, having just ploughed a record amount of money into the SPL, the product on show tonight definently wasn't worth the money.

You wouldn't have thought that this was a must win game for us as too many players looked like they were just going through the motions. With the exception of one or two, our team, unbelievably, didn't seem intrested!

As luck would have it though we managed to produce two, and that was about it, magic moments to bring back the three points and keep what hope we have left intact.

To the team :-

Mullet :- Good game from the Dutchman. Has endured a lot, from the media and the fans, but yet again, kept us in the game. Deflected goal gave him no chance.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Murray :- Unsurprising start for Murray and deputised ok. Not his most natural position and I think we will see a new face at right back next season.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Andrews :- Another surprise starter. Got what we expected from him though, crunching tackles and powerful headers just a shame he isn't a "footballer". Gets found out too often.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Soti :- Back to his calamatous best. More inclined to hug an opponent or throw himself to the deck than try and rough up his opposite number. Too many games he just isn't intrested in.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Smith :- Unusually quiet game. Never got forward to the same extent as normal. Was kept busy defensivley and did ok.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Burke :- Hasn't quite got the same zip about him just now and didn't hit the heights again tonight. Took a couple of heavy knocks that went unpunished which maybe dampened his appetite.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Hemdani :- Can pass and tackle but cant control a midfield. Reasonable game without ever excelling.
RMed Verdict :- 6

G Rae :- Must admit I spent the most of the game looking to see if he was on the pitch. Did little as we were overrun in the last quater of a hour.
RMed Verdict :- 5

Prso :- Started on the left but moved infield frequently to try and get involved. Was a driving force and our main creative threat. Set up both goals with sublime vision and touch.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Buffel :- Non existent in the first half and hooked for the second. Sums up his night as he failed to cope with the bad conditions.
RMed Verdict :- 5

Boyd :- How dare we criticise his work rate!! Was all over the park tonight, tracked back, won tackles and scored two terrific goals. If not for him and Prso it would have been one of the worst performances I'd seen.
RMed :- 9 (MOTM and well deserved)

Big Eck :- Had one or two injury problems but over the whole he failed to get the boys up for the game. Strange that, considering its importance??
RMed Verdict :- 5

The waiting now begins as we hold our breath and hope that Hearts make some kind of slip up to Aberdeen, who will hopefully have a wee bit more bottle than Hearts last opponents!

For now, we must Keep Believing

Kilmarnock 1 vs. Rangers 3 - April 29/2006

KEEPING THE FAITH

It seemed like another one of those days, struggling to convert our chances, soaking up pressure and losing another goal to go 1-0 down aaarrrggghhh!!

Then it happened, call it what you like, Divine Intervention, Miracle, Faith, it doesn't really matter. God brought us Big Marv and Big Marv brought us goals and not a moment too soon may iIadd as our CL place was sinking without trace. The game started well enough with Buffel and Rae going close with fine efforts but then the rot set in. Crosses going wayward, passes not finding their targets and chances going a begging. I personally believe that with Buffel playing behind Boyd that we never get enough men in the box. Prso and Burke run the wings and Buffel plays the free man and generally floats into wide areas leaving Boyd very isolated. The second half change of putting Prso alongside Boyd and Buffel wide helped us.

Now all we need is Cel.. to take some points off Hearts and we'll be in for another classic end to the season.

To the team :-

Mullet :- Had to be on his toes for most of the game. His distribution was excellent and he had no chance with the thunderbolt that was their goal.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Hutton :- Feel bad for him as his season is falling apart. Distribution was slack and crossing was sporadic. Needs a major confidence boost, and fast.
RMed Verdict :- 4

J Rod :- Good solid display from J Rod. Had a lucky escape early on with a penalty claim against him but after that didn't put a foot wrong.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Murray :- Uncomfortable at Centre back as Nish gave him the run around in the first half. Looked better at Right back although needs a run to find form.
RMed :- 5

Smith :- Had a great game. Defensivley he is improving with every game and attacking wise his confidence is sky high. Can pick out a good cross and rarey wastes a pass.
RMed Verdict :- 8 (MOTM must surey have caught the eye of PLG)

Burkey :- Hasn't quite reached the peaks of pre injury. Possibly through tighter marking as more defenders are watching out for him. Still gave it a good go and was unlucky not to win a penalty in the first half.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Hemdani :- Seemed to be given a marking roll on Johnstone and kept him quiet. Not quite as dominant as last week but a decent performance again.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Rae :- Graft and determination is there in bagfuls, needs a few more games which, unfortunately for him, he hasn't got. The signs are good that he can recapture the form that made Rangers buy him in the first place.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Prso :- Out wide or through the middle you know what your going to get. Played well down the flank but, for me, improved the team when played up front with Boyd.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Buffel :- Was the brains behind the brawn again as he created most of our good play. Still not used to, and doesn't like, the physical stuff and will have to learn to cope with that better.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Boyd :- Isolated too much up front and think he would perform better playing alongside another striker. Always bangs one in though so can't complain too much.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Big Eck :- How do you judge a manager? Man Management, Tactical Nous, Coaching ability or Substitutions? If it is only on the last one then Big Eck is a managerial Genius. Marvs introduction won us the game so given the benefit of the doubt...
RMed Verdict :- 8

It turned out well in the end, thank "God", and our challenge rolls on. A win against Hibs midweek and I think we'll have another final day drama on our hands. Given our track record in them it could yet be a celebratory end to the season.

Celtic 0 vs Rangers 0 - April 23/2006

STROLL IN THE PARK

The sun was shining, the grass was green and the birds were all singing.....

....Happy Birthday to Her Majesty???

That was the highlight of the game for me, except a ten minute spell at the start of the second half, where we actually looked like a decent team.

Where was the urgency?, The must have three points? By the time the game had finished it looked like both parties were happy with a draw. You could understand that from the Celtic point of view but us?? 4 points difference from three games, we must now hope that Celtic have more of a desire against Hearts.

To the team:-

Mullet :- Good game from the much maligned keeper. Made some great saves and tackles to keep us in the game.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Hutton :- Nervous start, unsurprising after his last outing, but grew onto a game and played reasonably well. Needs to work on his crossing from an attacking point of view.
RMed Verdict :- 6

J Rod :- Took the first quater of the game to settle, misjudging a few headers, but after that was very solid and didnt give Hartson a sniff.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Soti :- Another mixed bag from the Greek. Too many mis-timed tackles in dangerous areas and with Maloney and Nakamura playing that wasn't the most sensible tactic.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Smith :- Another good day in a steep learning curve for the youngster. Uses the ball really well even when under pressure. From a defensive point of view, the pure lack of mention of Mr Petrov says it all.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Burke :- Started livley enough only to be whacked by McManus early on. Was a good creative threat in the first half but faded in the second, especially after THAT miss.
RMed Verdict :- 6

G Rae :- First start in two years but it didnt show. Put in a terrific defensive shift covering every blade of grass. My only disappointment was the lack of his old trademark runs beyond the ball.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Hemdani :- Best game in a Rangers Jersey. Always looking for the ball and controling possesion. His one flaw was his inability to split open the Celtic defence.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Prso :- Like the rest was quiet in the first half but came to life in the second. Terrorising Telfer down the left hand side, creating two and nearly scoring one glorious chance. Was amazed when Big Eck moved him inside, which coincided with our fall from grace.
RMed Verdict :- 8 ( MOTM, Captian for the day and performed accordingly)

Buffel :- Spent most of his time chasing the ball along Celtics back four. Had one or two driving runs and a couple of passes that opened them up (Shame about the linesman!!) but wasn't his day.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Boyd :- Ineffective against their two big centre backs where sometimes modility can be a bigger threat. Was starved of supply though and the single oppertunity that he did get he tucked away superbly (Queue Mr linseman AGAIN).
RMed Verdict :- 6

Big Eck :- Couldn't understand his thinking today. Must have given a good half time talk because he got a reaction from the players , BUT, Why, as above, move Prso when he was having soo much joy? Why move Burkey to the left when IMO he had nothing left in the tank and WHY OH WHY bring on a pace monster, when we need to win the game, with only twenty seconds left on the clock??
RMed Verdict :- 5

It aint over yet, not by a long shot but i cant help feeling that we threw away two points today (now where have i felt that before this season??) Celtic were there for the taking as their desire was non existent, hence they got booed from their own fans. We must hope for them to pick up their game for the visit to Hearts or the dream of the CL will dissappear.

Rangers 1 vs. Aberdeen 1 - April 15/2006

DON IN AND DON FOR!

Our season was summed up in that performance. Only one or two players managed to climb out of the average bracket and all too often these players have let Rangers down badly when they were needed most.

Next Sunday's game now becomes a must win for us and I'm sorry to say it but beating Celt... at the Piggery seems a long way off. Hearts are looking strong but i do believe they will drop points. Problem is I cant see us winning all our remaining games although anything is possible and as that good old Blue Nose saying goes, KEEP BELIEVING.

To the team:- Mullet :- Made some good saves and got his pass marks. Couldn't be faulted for their goal as the deflection left him rooted to the spot.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Hutton :- Hate to take into a young player but he lost confidence early on and never regained it. Was hooked for Murray, and that sums up his day.
RMed Verdict :- 4

J Rod :- Another to make the grade, reliable and consistent, another partner for him is surley on the way.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Soti :- Can be good but only when HE wants to be. Doesnt want to be often enough including yesterday, giving away needless freekicks including the one which led to the goal.
RMed Verdict :- 5

Smith :- Good work ethic and energy. His passing was good too. Most of our best moves came down the left channel with Stevie and Dado.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Burke :- Quiet day for the returning Burke. Was tightly marked and wandered in several times to try and get involved.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Hemdani :- Becoming a repetative story. Very effective in front of the back line but surley has to offer more going forward, especially when teams are sitting deep.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Bazza :- Has had a good run of form of late but it deserted him today. Was hit with a couple of crunching tackles and you just wonder how much, with the injury at the back of his mind, he was holding back.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Prso :- A creative outlet for us for most of the game. Will run all day to create chances, how we wish his work ethic would rub off on some of his team mates.
Rmed Verdict :- 7

Buffel :- His main problem, for me, is stamina. He starts most games so brightly and has a great creative brain but the second half he is never the same player. Hooked for Novo after disappearing again.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Boyd :- Paid to do a job and didnt let us down again. His graft is somtimes questioned but we moaned constantly about Prso overworking and not scoring enough goals. Boyd may not move from the box to much but he can certianly finish!
RMed Verdict :- 8 ( MOTM more of a fox in the box than Franny will ever be!!)

Big Eck :- Dont blame him for this one. He put out the same team, with the exception of Burke, that have won him his last 3 games. The players let him down badly and should take a long look at themselves.
RMed Verdict :- 6

In short, I think that PLG will be playing EUFA cup football next season which in a way might not be so bad. Dont get me wrong the money loss will sit heavy on the club but it will give the new gaffer a chance to build a team to COMPETE rather than struggling against bigger opposition. Before bringing us the CL the following season!!

Rangers 1 vs. Motherwell 0 - April 8/2006

TEMPERATURE CHECK

As the race for second really starts to hot up, especially with the final fixtures announced, our beloved Rangers decide to run cold. Granted they faced a tough tackling Motherwell side who had a lot to play for in terms of a top six place, and granted we got the three points which, really, is all thats required but I for one expected more. We had started to look like a side on the up, a good win at United last week, Hearts losing to Celt.. and the points and goal difference down to 3 and 9 respectivley, but yesyerday knocked us back and showed us just how hard the fight is going to be. Lets hope we're up to the challenge!

Today's Team :-

Mullet :- Booed constantly for his "alleged" comments and, if true then, rightly so. Credit where its due though, he saved our skins on a couple of occasions, which shows a lot for his concentration and profesionalism.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Hutton :- Made some good driving runs down the right flank. Final ball needs a little work but pretty solid overall.
RMed Verdict :- 6

J Rod :- A.k.a. the Rock. Looked strong and up for it. His concentration is first class and he never shirks responsibility. A mainstay for years to come.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Soti :- The first of two players who need that temperature check. Blowing hot and cold is just the norm. for Soti. Distinctly average game which saw him lose possesion to readilly.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Smith :- Good shift from him but still has a bit to learn. Allowed Clarkson to turn him to get a shot away. Just starting to wonder whether PLG will have a bit more experienced man in at left back next year.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Lovenpants :- Like Soti, you never know what to expect. Had great and terrible spells all in the one game, including a couple of missed sitters.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Hemdani :- Does the defensive stuff extremely well and has that continental feel to him. Unfortunatley his attacking abilities let him down a bagful and another that i see PLG changing next year.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Bazza :- Typified what is needed in the comming weeks. Courage and determination which drives him on despite injury. Had a good game, was always available to take a pass and created several chances.
RMed Verdict :- 8 (MOTM)

Prso :- Good display again by the big man. Never stops trying and made several good runs down the flank. Another whos good form is vital to us.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Buffel :- The creative mind behind the working team. His livley runs and good vision created our goal. Just seems to lack endurance.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Boyd :- Right place, right time and right man for the job. Another goal to add to his impressive tally. Could go down in SPL history for being top scorer for two teams in the one season.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Big Eck :- First time in a long while he has picked the same team two weeks in a row. We'll need that consistency, with the inclusion of Burkey for Lovenpants, in the run in.
RMed Verdict :- 6

It was a tight game against a tough team in a tense atmosphere but the three points are ours. Now the heat is really turned up as we enter the last five games and if need be we "will" hammer Hearts on the last day of the season. Besides with our last day record of late, they dont have a chance!!

Dundee Utd. 1 vs. Rangers 4 - April 2/2006

TANGERINE TROUNCING

After writing last week about how weak we were in front of goal I get the feeling that someone is trying to ram my words back down my keyboard!

Basically our attacking force today was outstanding. Boyd will grab all the headlines, and rightly so, but Prso was superb along with Buffel and Lovenpants and even Bazza for that matter. United couldn't cope with us at all and really truly it could have been a more emphatic victory.

I hope that Hearts finished celebrating in time to watch the game because we look, at last, to be up for the fight.

Today's Team :-

Mullet :- Eck's "first choice" Keeper was restored today and had very little to do until a lack of communication between Hutton and himself led to Samuel tapping into an empty net.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Hutton :- Had a quiet game and didn't see as many of his normal attacking runs. A change in right side partner maybe contributing to this. Was out muscled by Samuel in the run up to their goal.
RMed Verdict :- 6

J Rod :- Another classy performance. Has no airs or graces, just wins the ball and moves it on. All seemed too easy for him.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Soti :- Typical Soti display. Made some good tackles and tried hard to keep the ball moving forward. With J Rod instead of Marv he looks a totally different player and one I wouldn't mind keeping, so long as he retains this form.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Smith :- Can't help but like this lad. Another game under his young belt and not since Numan have we had such a good left back. I do hope PLG rates him as highly as we do.
RMed :- 7

Lovenpants :- Surprise right winger today. Cut inside more often than going down the line but did it to good effect firing off a couple of shots. Don't think Burkey has anything to worry about though and will re-take his place when fit.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Hemdani :- Ideal foil for the back two. His only drawback is in his attacking side, the drawback being that he doesn't have one! Still pondering if this is a good thing or not because it gives Bazza an attacking freedom.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Bazza :- Ran the midfield and contributed so much to us going forward. Was instrumental along with Lovenpants in the Arsenal esk second goal. (Pure football quality). Dont think he will go under the knife, so long as he can still run, until second place is assured.
Rmed Verdict :- 8

Prso :- Has taken a while, after his injury, to get back onto a game but came back with a bang today. His goal was sublime and his contribution to the other goals and to the game as a whole was nothing short of magic. Soo wanted to give him man of the match but couldn't take it away from the hattrick man.
RMed Verdict :- 9

Buffel :- Showed after 2 minutes that he was up for the game with a cheeky turn and chip that went inches wide. Worked hard all game and covered the length and breadth of the pitch. His creative brain is required to open up these 9,10 man defences.
RMed Verdict :- 8

Boyd :- Hattrick hero. His movement and positioning was second to none and could have grabbed himself more than he got. He is so much like Super Ally that its scary. He does little to nothing during the game except put the ball in the back of the net but, hey, what more do we want!!
Rmed Verdict :- 9 (MOTM pure natural talent!!!)

Big Eck :- Hasn't picked the same team week on week for what seems like a whole season and didn't dissapoint us again. Proved to be a non-deliberate piece of genius though as United were run ragged.
RMed Verdict :- 8

In short we were great today and seven more performances like that and I'm sure we will be in the Champions league next season. Hearts beware, Eck has found his end of season magical form once more!!!

Rangers 1 vs. Dunfermline 0 - March 25/2006

STRIKERS BELOW PARS

Watching the Gers has never been as agonising as it has been this season. It was another story of absolutley gubbing the opposition 1-0 and like on so many other occasions our lack of a real killer instinct in finishing teams off nearly cost us points.

A Klos super save spared our blushes rather than our strikers having a field day and with PLG assessing their individual performances you gotta think he'll be looking to bolster our attack!!

Today's Ratings:-

Klos :- Good to see Der Goalie given a game. Must have felt no different form being on the bench for most of the game as he was a virtual spectator. Brought back good memories though just moments from the end when a great save touched a Todd shot over the bar.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Hutton :- Played well enough without excelling. Can make great bursts forwards, but didnt see that enough in a game against an eleven man defence.
RMed Verdict :- 6

J Rod :- Learning and adapting to our game now. Expected a solid display and got one.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Soti :- Just the usual from the big man. At times sloppy, at times defensivley sound. Some forraging runs, some concentration lapses and then he does the one thing that we really need. SCORES. Rumour has it that he wants a new contract. Would you give him one??
RMed Verdict :- 7 (MOTM for the only man that could score)

Smith :- Looks and feels more natural at left back than Murray and his surging runs are very productive. A must in that position for the run in.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Burke :- Again our main creative threat. Probed the Dumfermline defence time and time again but couldnt just find that one extra piece of magic.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Hemdani :- Couldnt fault his defensive duties but playing against any team that sits in requires a bit more forward thrust from the midfield. He needs to give more of that.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Bazza :- Slipped back from his performances of late and seemed to be playing within himself. Got forward several times but his goalscoring touch of yester year has yet to be re-discovered.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Prso :- Always gives 100%. Somtimes you need somthing more than just effort though. Hasn't recaptured his form from earlier on in the season since his injury lay off. Still dont like him as a left midfielder.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Buffel :- You cant create 20 shots at goal without some good creativity and he was at the heart of several of those. Again you felt that he should have taken one or two of the chances that came his way.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Boyd :- Worst performance so far in a Rangers Jersey. The natural goal scoring talent escaped him today as he squandered the majority of our chances. Will have to up his workrate too to impress the watching Frenchmen.
RMed Verdict :- 5

Big Eck :- Scarmbling and scraping must have become second nature to him this year and i think that he will be as relieved as anyone to see this season out.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Someone said to me last week that Dumfermline didnt want to take a hammering off Celtic in last weeks cup final so they played with only one up front. They must fear Rangers a heck of a lot more then to play with NONE up there. Still it's up to us to win our own games, and, oh yeah, lets hope that our Neighbours do us a good turn next week!

Hearts 1 vs. Rangers 1 - March 19/2006

HEARTS vs NO HEARTS

You could tell from the off that they were pumped up and ready for this and played the game with huge determination. Us? It was like watching Daniel O'Donnel when we were expecting Nirvana!!

I sat down to watch this game thinking that 3 points would take the difference down to 3 points then bring them to Ibrox to bring that to all square then them to drop points at Celtic and us to....................

.....and by the time it was finished i was very grateful to come away with a point! It's amazing what a brutal ninety minutes can do to a mans confidence.

Fortunatly after a few hours to regain my senses i feel that second is still a strong possibility with plenty points still to be won and lost and my optomism level's are slowly starting to recover.

Anyway, to the players:-

Mullet :- Could do nothing with the goal and was nearly beaten when Neilsen rattled his crossbar but had little else to do.
RMed Rating :- 6

Hutton :- Good solid performance with some great tackles and kept Skacel quiet all day. Cant remember any dangerous crosses comming in from that side. Pushed forward to support Burkey as much as possible.
RMed Verdict :- 8

J Rod :- Had his first "real" tough physical Scottish challenge today and did a good job. A Rangers quality player and really starting to show it. Now just needs to learn the offside rule to stop all these "second phase" goals that we seem to be leaking. (This last statement goes to all of our back four btw.)
RMed Verdict :- 7

Soti :- He can do a job for the Gers when he wants to and did well again today. Needs to have J Rod, or a player of that quality, beside him though for security purposes because he does like to wander and is prone to concentrtion lapses.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Murray :- Hate to write this but had a shocker. Was caught out badly for the goal and several times after that with balls in behind. Seemed a bit shakey on confidence, maybe from having lost his place to Stevie Smith, and on this form he wont be keeping it long either!
RMed Verdict :- 5

Burke :- Flattened by a hard tackle after about 2 minutes and was a marked man from there on in. Did extremley well to conjour up the chances that he did and was the most potent threat we had. Brilliant run, nutmeg and cross just on half time which should have ended in a goal and also created the equaliser.
RMed Verdict :- 8 and Man Of The Match

Hemdani :- Posted missing today when he was required most. Was outdone in midfield by the pure desire and fight of his opposite numbers. Has the quality but, especially for the Rangers, you have to have the Heart.
RMed Verdict :- 5

Bazza :- Tried to fight the midfield battle by himself and gave it a really good go. Would benefit greatly by playing alongside someone with the same drive. (Dare i say, a Ricksen of last year.) Is easy to see how he can get so frustrated.
RMed Verdict :- 7

Prso :- How on earth can he be classed as a left midfielder?? Lone striker..Yes, Target man..Yes, Left side of a front three..Yes but Left side of a midfield four..your having a laugh!! Had a bad game but not for the want of trying. Improved greatly and gave us somthing to aim for when moved to the front.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Buffel :- Was a heavyweight game and the lightweight of Buffel was never going to be much cope. Struggled to get to grips with the game, not helped by the stop startedness of the poor refereeing, and should have tucked away the simplest chance of the game before half time. Made up an extra point by scoring but not a great day.
RMed Verdict :- 6

Lovenpants :- The thinking behind playing him up front alone could only be pace and mobility for balls up the side of slow centre backs right? WRONG! No, no, we have to lump high ball after high ball up to the second lightest man on the park. He was useless but through no fault of his own.
RMed Verdict :- 5

Big Eck :- Squad picking was ok. Placing of players within that squad was nothing more than woeful. I am sure he had his reasons but i wouldnt mind him explaing them to the rest of us!
RMed Verdict :- 5

It is so often said that the team with the most desire will come out on top and so it was today. Hearts are NOT a great team. Far from it but if we want second place then we have to want it MORE than them. A lot to be proved in the comming weeks.

Rangers 4 vs. Killie 0 - March 11/2006

2nd BEST

= What we were in Spain

= What Killi were yesterday

= WHERE WE "WILL" FINISH THE SEASON

No midweek hangover for the gers as we stormed out of the blocks to clinch all three points against, what has been, a dangerous Killi side. Seems a little harsh on Big Eck, tho, that a few players are starting to find their feet and form in the SPL now when its too late for him. Just as well its perfect timing for Rangers for getting second place and a deserved CL spot for next year. Think i'm being over confident? That's what a long awaited INFATIC victory does to moral!

Ok, to the team.

Mullet :- How can i judge him?? He had nothing to do. Well , ok, 1 easy save from Di Giacomo.
Verdict :- 6

Hutton :- Has made the right back spot his own. Defended well, supported the attack well and generally played............well!
Verdict :- 6

J Rod :- Kept his CL game head on and played a blinder. Sound in the tackle and good distrubution. Capped it all with his first Rangers goal.
Verdict :- 9 (MOTM for the mere fact of opening his Rangers account)

Soti :- Reverted back to his SPL game. Erratic at times and took unnessecary risks. Has to keep his concentration levels up for the run in whether he's lookin for a new club or not!
Verdict :- 6

Murray :- Is it a benefit or a hindrance to him that he is so adaptable. Will always be seen as backup to several positions rather than have ONE of his own. Even so, deputises admirably and always gives his all.
Verdict :- 6

Burkey :- Good shift again by the wee man. Fullbacks must really dread seeing his name on the team sheets these days. Started to tire a wee bit in the second half and will be glad of a clear week before the visit to Tyncastle.
Verdict :- 7

Hemdani :- Looks to be kicking in at long last. More assured touch and rarely loses possesion. Is also a good reader of the game which allows him to break up opposition attacks which in turn gives Bazza a bit more licence.
Verdict :- 7

Bazza :- Another good display. (Thats 2 in a row!!) seems to have brought confidence back home from Spain with him. Is crucial to our run in.
Verdict :- 7

Buffel :- Deployed in midfield rather than attack and linked the two extremley well. Liked having two men ahead of him to work with.
Verdict :- 8

Prso :- Outstanding workrate again from the Big man. Ran the Killi defence ragged and was glad to see him on the score sheet.
Verdict :- 8

Boyd :- Thrown on from the start to ensure that his confidence hadn't or didn't falter after THAT miss. Nothing could have been better then, that after 15 minutes back on his old stomping ground he banged the ball into the net without the slightest hint of hesitation.
Verdict :- 7

Big Eck :- Nine games left and counting. After the season he's had could still leave a hero by securing 2nd place.

Oh, and by the way, can I take this opportunity to welcome Mr Paul Le Guen to the Mighty Glasgow Rangers and wish him a very successful tenure.

Villarreal 1 vs. Rangers 1 - March 7/2006

ZERO FOR HERO'S

Happy, sad, proud, angry, relieved or distraught. How do you feel??

Me, I have been feeling them all since 19.45 last night and continue to do so. Problem is if we had taken a hammering I wouldn't feel half as bad as I do now, to go sooo close and try sooo hard and even pass 1 of the best passing sides in the CL off the park and come away with zero is very distressing, and for all the "they tried hard" or " they gave their all" or even "they battled galantly" it doesn't shake the overwhelming feeling of getting knocked out.

I'm sure all our boys are feeling the same and had a terrible journey home from Spain but they do deserve a lot of credit for the way they took Villa Real on and the whole of Scotland should feel proud of the performance that was put on.

Mullet :- First half his kicking, which is normaly solid, was shocking. Made up for it big time though with 3 exceptional saves to keep our hopes alive.
Verdict :- 7

Hutton :- Nervous, and who can blame him, in the first half he struggled to contain Riequelme. Got more confident as the game went on, will have learnt a lot from this game.
Verdict :- 6

J Rod :- Outstanding first half and organised our defence well. Had to adjust to Franco in the second half but coped admirably.
Verdict :- 8

Soti :- Again a European night and again a big performance by him. Some great tackling and dominating in the air showed that he can actually play.
Verdict :- 8

Murray :- Enforced change in the line up and did nothing wrong. Tried to get forward to help in attack and as ever, never stopped running.
Verdict :- 7

Burkey :- Was the danger man and Villa Real knew it. Had 2-3 men on him everytime he got the ball but still managed to get in a couple of great crosses, including the one for Boyd which could have won the game.
Verdict :- 7

Hemdani :- Tracked their runs all night and was an effective spoiler. Could have been a bit better in his passing but gave his all.
Verdict :- 6

Bazza :- WHERE did THAT come from. Performance of his life, or his season anyway. Dominated the midfield with power and fight and got forward well especially for the goal. A hero when one was required.
Verdict :- 9 (MOTM and extremley well deserved.)

Namouchi :- Played out left to plug a gap and did it well. Deployed defensivley he still managed to bull on forward at every opportunity and should be pleased with his night.
Verdict :- 7

Buffel :- First half full of sublime touches and movement seemed a lot quieter in the second half, slight injury maybe?, and was eventually subbed.
Verdict :- 7

Lovenpants :- Effort, desire, didn't shirk a challenge and in the right place at the right time for the goal. We should play the champions league music before every game at Ibrox!! Great stuff from the dane.
Verdict :- 8

Big Eck :- Was spot on with his tactics. Everyone thought he would defend a 0-0 till 80 minutes but caught us all out , and more importantly Villa Real, by attacking from the word go.
Verdict :- 8

We've had a great run, a great time and best of all we've made HISTORY. Chin up everybody cause.

WE ARE THE PEOPLE.

Falkirk 1 vs. Rangers 2 - March 4/2006

SAVING OURSELVES FOR TUESDAY ?

Lets Hope So !

Prso MOTM!

Flu ridden or not this same squad has to fly to Spain and bring back a result this comming Tuesday.

It was a day of huffing and puffing but the result was the right one at the final whistle. At least a few notches will have to be upped though to go from the freezing cold of Falkirk to the sunnier climbs of Villa Real. (But as ever i know the boys can do it!! WATP)

Back to yesterday and the players:-

Mullet :- No clean sheet again. His fault, the defence in front of him or a combination of the two? Can never make up my mind.
Verdict :- 6

Hutton :- A respectable if not more subdued display from the youngster, wonder if not having Burkey in front of him dropped his confidence a level.
Verdict :- 6

J Rod :- How a 38 year old can show you a clean pair of heels i'll never know, and as is the norm this season, 1 mistake has cost us a goal.
Verdict :- 6

Soti :- see above!
Verdict :- 6

OB :- First outing for a while and could be his last for a while too! Looked slow and uneasy and was rightly hooked at half time.
Verdict :- 4

Novo :- Full of life and fight without much end product. You can always rely on 100% from the wee man.
Verdict :- 7

Hemdani :- Does the unseen dirty work efficiently could still show more comming forward.
Verdict :- 7

Bazza :- Another frustrating day for our skipper. I do feel for him, especially if he is fighting on through an injury. Surley must be allowed treatment after our CL run ends.
Verdict :- 6

Smith :- Good shift again especially in the second half when moved back to his more natural position. If only Burkey was a left winger, for wee Stevie just seems to love linking up with him down that touchline.
Verdict :-7

Boyd :- Sits on the edge of the game a lot but will always put a chance away when it comes his way.
Verdict :- 7

Prso :- Drive , pride, desire and a bit of skill to go with it. Showed what he is all about to force the second goal. Will be sorley missed in Spain.
Verdict :- 8 (Our man of the match. Nice to choose someane else for a change.)

Big Eck :- Said he would field his strongest squad so surprised us all with his selection. Lets pray everyone is fit for the Big Game!
Verdict :- 7 (well we did get 3 points!)

Cant ask much more than a win but lets hope that the sun kills off any bugs in the camp to give us the best possible chance of a place in the last 8!

(2-1 the Gers is my accurate prediction)

We "ARE" the people so keep believin!

Rangers 2 vs. Villareal 2 - Feb. 22/2006

GREAT RESULT OR LUCKY ESCAPE?? Have you made your mind up? For me it was a great result, ever the optomist eh! We were the underdogs before the match and it showed in the first 20 mins where they scored 1 and could have had a couple more!! At this stage i was for hiding behind the settee BUT thats when things started to change. We all of a sudden started finding wee Burkey and there is just somthing about that boy that ignites when he has the ball and chances soon started commin. Queue Lovenpants, how can 1 man be so inept one minute and, to quote Martin O'Neil, EXTRAORDINARALY brilliant the next!! For me this upped our tempo and desire and we played the better of the first half after that.

Second half we were outpassed and outplayed by a good Villa Real side but we played with a certian pride and passion that is very encouraging for the second leg. To finish 2-2 some might think we were lucky, deflected own goal and all, but IMO there "Offside" goal should never have stood either and i do no thats the rules but the rules are wrong and will be changed before next season.

Anyway to break it down, here's my Man by Man:-

Mullet :- Gives me the heebie geebies every time he leaves his line but made a couple of good saves and had no chance for the goals.
Verdict :- 7

Hutton :- Defended bravley and merited his inclusion supported Burke well and didnt put a foot wrong. Another long range effort too!!
Verdict :- 8

J Rod :- Queit but effective, did the easy things well and handled there strikers runs admirably.
Verdict :- 7

Soti :- Like Lovenpants, turns it on for the big game only. Boy did he turn it on tho. Last dich tackles, running blocks and decent distrubution. Pushed Burkey for man of the match IMO.
Verdict :- 9

Smith :- Was caught out 2 or 3 times defensivley but will benefit greatly from the experience. His foraging runs to support the attack tho were great and the wee lad came fairly whip in a cross.
Verdict :- 7

Burkey :- Played on the big stage with the big boys and came out well on top. Scared some of the most experienced players in europe out of there wits. You just know that somthings gonna happen when he gets the ball!!
Verdict :- 9 (Motm. Can somone else please take this from him for a change)

Hemdani :- Given the holding and spoiling roll and did it well. Covered a lot of ground. Still think there's more to come from him tho.
Verdict :- 7

Bazza :- Showed glimpses of his old self with some fine runs from midfield and nearly got onto a couple of great moves. More to come from our captian but the signs are good.
Verdict :- 7

Namouchi :- Surprise inclusion. (Can see Eck's thinking, of bulking up the midfield, but would have prefered Buffel here.) As ever he does the hard stuff brilliantly and the easy stuff naff. Good work rate and effort tho.
Verdict :- 7

Lovenpants :- Absolute SCREAMER. This goal will be shown on Rangers videos for a long time. Did a dissappearing act after that but hey, who cares!
Verdict :- 7

Prso :- My god!!! What was he thinking??? Dont think we'll ever no the answer to that one. Played a good game after that with some great fick on's and hold up play. Will be sorley missed for the return leg.
Verdict :- 7

Big Eck :- Better lucky than good? Made a couple of surprising changes from Saturday but they payed off.
Verdict :- 7

Conclusion for this is that we are still in with a good chance of progressing and what more could we ask. IMO Villa Real are beatable and from previous CL games are more so when at home.

Keep Believing

Rangers 2 vs. Hibernian 0 - Feb. 18/2006

Burke MOTM once again. Let's look at the game breakdown!

5 STAR GERS

Do what they've failed to do all season.

BEAT HIBS!!!!

The five stars i'm talking about are of course Burke, Boyd, Hutton, Smith and Rodriguez. The latter of whichmay well br "THE" most crucial with the Villa Real game just a few days away.

J Rod, whether meaning to or not, seems to have installed a calmer more orgonised and footballing approach to our back line. Confidence still has to be instilled back into the supporters tho but a few more clean sheets, starting on Wednesday, will go a long way to doing just that.

Here is my man by man assesment of the game:-

Mullet :- Will never have my full confidence but did nothing wrong.

Verdict :- 6

Hutton :- Another superd show by our young right back. Confidence is high and even tried a 35 yarder that didnt miss by much!! On this form it is difficult to see Ricksen getting back in the team.

Verdict :- 8

J Rod :- Strong and assured performance. Still has match sharpness to gain and that can only improve us.

Verdict :- 8

Soti :- Very rarley do i have anything good to say about him but he saved us in the first half with a goal line clearance.

Verdict :- 7

Smith :- Shows a lot for the young lads ability that he is keeping OB and Murray out of the team. Works the line well with boundless energy and nearly scored a Numan esk goal. (note to Smith. Work on yur finishing )

Verdict :- 8

Burkey :- Running out of superlatives for the wee man. His entertainment value is second to none. Says he wants to be like Joe Cole, he aint far off it.

Verdict :- 9 (MOTM and surley a Scotland call up to come)

Hemdani :- First game back after a long time out. More of a technical player than big Boab and could yet prove a good buy.

Verdict :- 7

Bazza :- Goal will do him the power of good but still has SO much more to offer. Wdnesday will be as good a time as ever for him to come good.

Verdict :- 7

Buffel :- Most frustrating player we have. Only because he IS CLASS when he turns up! Hope he's savin himself for the big game!

Verdict :- 6

Prso :- Starting to find his touch again but still has a bit to go. Drifted in and out yesterday without being spectacular.

Verdict :- 6

Boyd :- Reminded me so much of Ally. Did very little till he got his chance but took it when it came. Will always score goals and surley a must for Wednesday.

Verdict :- 8

McLeish :- Rang the changes that the fans have been lookin for. Too little too late i'm afraid. But hey the confidence boost can do no harm.

Verdict :- 7

The game went very well for the Gers and it was good to see Gavin Rae comming on for a run out. I do rate him highly from past memory and hopefully 2 years on the sidelines wont have affected that.

To finish :-

IMO McLeish has just had Wednesdays line up decided for him. Cant see him changin anyone unless injurys occur.

Keep Believing.

Rangers 0 vs. Celtic 1 - Feb. 12/2006

RangersMedia chooses Christ Burke as the Man of the Match for Rangers against Celtic. This is the second straight MOTM award for Burke as he was left alone in the midfield, it seemed, for much of the match. Rangers have been struggling as of late, but not Burke. It only leaves you to wonder how well he will play once Rangers find their groove...either this year or in the future.

Aberdeen 2 vs. Rangers 0 - Feb. 7/2006

RangersMedia chooses Christ Burke as the Man of the Match for Rangers against Aberdeen. Although no player really stood out as a star, Burke was his consistent self and has proven worthy of a future with the Gers. Although the game was not one of our best, Peter Lovenkrands could have easily tied the score, and won the MOM, by knocking home two sitters in the second half.
