Rangers 2 vs. 0 Celtic May 5th 2007

WALTERS WARRIORS

His return has seen a steadying of the ship, an unbeaten run that stretches to thirteen game, qualification for the Champions League next season and, maybe most important of all, the sign of getting a strangle hold over our fiercest rivals.
That’s two wins out of two against them with this one being the most convincing. We didn’t just beat them on goals, we beat them all over the park by being first in the tackle, first to the loose ball and so much better in possession and it is this attitude and dedication that has been instilled throughout the team that has propelled us through the dark period and towards a brighter future.
Walter stuck with the same team, although had he had a fit Prso he might have changed it around after the draw against Hibs last week. In saying that the players look to have gelled some more and for the first time in a long time we had a left side as Adam was pushed well forward and Papac was given license to get forward, in fact for a lot of the game we were playing a 4-3-3 with Novo and Adam right up top with Boyd and Bazza, Hemdani and Thomson running the middle of the park. It could have been a lot more than 2-0 at the end of the day with even Sebo coming off the bench to have two very good efforts at goal.
All in all it is a great day to be a Bear and long may these days continue!!

Today’s team: -

McGregor: - Had a wee snooze to himself in the first half, as the flow of play was all the other way. He wasn’t caught napping in the second half though and made a couple of excellent saves.
Rmed Verdict: - 7

Hutton: - We just expect good performances from him just now and he didn’t disappoint again today. McGeady never got out of his back pocket and Naylor was shown up more than once as he flew passed him. Unlucky not to score with a tremendous volley.
Rmed Verdict: - 9

Ehiogu: - A lot more comfortable against the big front man rather than the wee nippy strikers he faced last week. Slipped up on a couple of occasions but wasn’t made to pay. All in all a decent display.
Rmed Verdict: - 7

Weir: - Tower of strength and intelligence that Celtic couldn’t find a way past. Organised his defence the way he wanted, won everything in the air and crunched a few tackles too. Solid.
Rmed Verdict: - 8

Papac: - A changed man since his early days of left back duties. Looked comfortable at the back and shackled the ineffectual “player of the year” with ease. Drove forward when he could and threw in some good balls.
Rmed Verdict: - 7

Novo: - His work rate was phenomenal today and he was up and down the right flank more times that I care to count. The Celtic back line didn’t like his direct running and he was another who was unlucky with a cracking shot. His chip through ball for Boyd’s opener was sublime.
Rmed Verdict: - 8

Hemdani: - Fans player of the year and showed his class today. Orchestrated things in the middle of the park and passed the ball at will through the hapless Celtic midfield. He also read every Celtic attack and broke up their play before it reached our back line. Superb showing.
Rmed Verdict: - 9 (MOTM a master class in the defensive midfield role.)

Thomson: - Growing in confidence as time goes on. Started the match a bit scrappy but became more and more assured. With Bazza and Hemdani beside him they could have probably passed the ball around all day without giving it away.
Rmed Verdict: - 7

Adam: - Was pushed well forward on the left to support Boyd and Novo but didn’t shirk his midfield duties either. He put some good balls into the box, passed it around well and out thought every player on the park by driving a sweet free kick under the wall.
Rmed Verdict: - 8

Bazza: - Oozed class as he controlled the tempo of the game. Between him and Hemdani we have the two best ball players in Scotland. Dropped deeper to allow for Novo and Adam but likes to get in the mix and it suited him well. Out shone Lennon on what was supposed to be his day.
Rmed Verdict: - 9

Boyd: - Hoodoo? What hoodoo? Will be thrilled to get that one out of the way and it was extra special since it was his 100th league goal at the same time. Worked hard up front and I even caught him once tracking back into his own half!!
Rmed Verdict: - 7

Sebo (On for Boyd): - Had a couple of decent chances and by his own making too. Might he still have a future at the Gers??
Rmed Verdict: - 5

Burke (On for Thomson): - Added a bit of life for the final few minutes and also had a good strike at goal (move out the way Bazza!!)
Rmed Verdict: - 4

Smith: - Gets the players motivated and he sure wasn’t treating this like an end of season friendly. Got his tactics spot on on the day and will be given a lift from what he saw for the future.
Rmed Verdict: - 8

The final piece was put on our season with the Qualification for the CL, but this day was about beating the auld enemy and didn’t we beat them. The planning can now commence on regaining the title of a distinctively average Celtic side and with Walter and his warriors we are in with a very good chance!!
